Two Juveniles Arrested With Firearms in Kalamazoo During Gun Violence Investigation

KALAMAZOO, MI -- Two teenagers were arrested and faced numerous weapons offenses after Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety investigators recovered multiple firearms during a traffic stop Monday, March 9, in Kalamazoo.

The incident occurred in the 1600 block of North Westnedge Avenue when members of the Crime Reduction Team were conducting a directed patrol related to gun violence at Interfaith Homes. During their patrol, investigators observed a 14-year-old male who was already wanted on a weapons offense in Kalamazoo County. A 16-year-old male was seen with him, and investigators determined both teens appeared to be armed with firearms.

Weapons Confiscated During Traffic Stop

The two juveniles entered a vehicle as passengers. When investigators conducted a traffic stop, they observed both juveniles removing items from their waistbands and moving them toward the floorboard. A search of the vehicle revealed firearms at the feet of both the 14-year-old and 16-year-old.

One of the firearms was reported stolen in Kalamazoo in 2023. Both juveniles were taken to the Kalamazoo County Juvenile Home and face numerous weapons offenses.
